W.G.V. (UK) Hop Pellets, 1 oz (Whitbread Goldings Variety)
Whitbread Goldings Variety (W.G.V.) is very similar to other Goldings, but many of its characteristics are more robust. Its aroma is sometimes described as tobacco-like, woody, or rugged. W.G.V. provides a unique sweet fruit flavor, and will give a mild, clean bitterness to traditional ales. It is sometimes used to good effect as a distinctive dry hop.
Often referred to simply as "WGV", this hop was developed in 1911 from Bates’s Brewer at the hop farm in Beltring, Kent later owned by the London brewer Whitbread. WGV is used today in McMullen’s AK, and is a parent to the modern First Gold and Progress hop varieties. Whitbread Goldings Variety is similar to Goldings, but with a stronger flavor that is pleasant and hoppy. Produces a sweet, fruity flavor with a mild, clean bitterness. Good as a distinctive dry hop with a fruity, mild and clean flavor. Organically grown in Belgium from English rootstock.
Possible substitutions: UK Kent Golding, UK First Gold, UK Progress.
