The gasket is designed to seal the lid on the 15 gallon MiniBrew fermenter. (HBF15b) We have advocated for many years that this is not necessary. The CO2 builds up inside forming a blanket of gas that protects the ferment. Bacteria will not penetrate this blanket of CO2 gas.
Our new blue gasket is an idea we should have thought of years ago. It is so simple and easy to use. It sits on the top ledge of our recently redesigned f15b fermenter. If you own a f15 fermenter only the old red g15 will work on that model. The ledge on the new model f15b)is one half inch wide and is the top rim of the tank.
We provide the gasket and fitting for the brewers and wine makers that feel more comfortable with a sealed fermenter. The silicone gasket is FDA approved for food. Once extruded the ends are vulcanized together forming a ring. The new blue gasket fits into a grove molded into the top lip of the fermenter, the lid slips on pressing against the gasket. You may purchase clamps from our parts page along with the fitting that screws onto the lid and holds the airlock. We also carry airlocks
This is the new redesigned eight gallon fermenter it holds the optional blue gasket. This gasket is easier to use than the old g8. For those who believe sealing the tank is best now you can buy a gasket that is a lot easier to install. We sell it separately as many brewers do not like the pressure a sealed tank exerts on the active yeast. If you need an airlock, clamps or a fitting for the one half inch threads in the lid you can order them online under our new parts section. These plastic clamps are used with the blue sealing gasket to help seal the lid of the f8 and f15 fermenters to the tank. Using the blue sealing gasket and the clamps forces the CO2 out the airlock in the lid. All of these items are sold separately. Some brewers say you need six clamps and some say none are needed, some say they use a brick on the lid with the blue gasket. We have in the past recommend no gasket before we developed the new blue gasket. The red gasket was difficult to use and the yeast works better without the pressure of a seal. This is one of the great things about brewing and wine making. You decided what works best for you. It is all in the taste. That is all that counts.
